Stormwater runoff in urban areas is one of the leading sources of water pollution in the United States. As the runoff flows over the land, paved streets, parking lots, and building rooftops, it accumulates chemicals, sediment or other pollutants that can adversely affect water quality if the runoff is discharged untreated. Through a series of video interviews with specialists from the City of Portland, we explore green infrastructure (GI) and low-impact development (LID) rainwater management strategies.

In this one-hour course, the participant will discover the importance of high quality indoor air, factors that contribute to quality, and strategies to support the health of construction workers and occupants. Consider the heavy emphasis placed on indoor air quality in LEED credit allocations, and learn how to design and implement indoor air quality management, best practices, and assessments that can help achieve LEED credits.

Grow your insights into the new LEED v4 rating system. We explore the fundamental concepts behind the development of LEED v4, including the expansion of the system into new market sectors as well as internationally.

In this one-hour course our team explores how scientists can help building product manufacturers meet the challenges of LEED v4 MR credits. We discuss how scientists help manufacturers develop product declarations and documentation for LEED v4 projects. We review the obstacles of achieving the LEED v4 BD+C MR credit: Building Product Disclosure and Optimization – Material Ingredients. Finally, we examine free resources that can help manufacturers and AEC firms with LEED projects.

This one hour course will empower project teams and design professionals to take leading roles in using materials selection to promote human health and protect the environment.

Lighting enables visual engagement with our built environment, with innovative manufacturers raising the performance bar ever higher. Join us in this course to evaluate how lighting products contribute to LEED v4 certification. We will review the program frameworks and most important LEED v4 credits, as they relate to lighting products, and identify steps that can be taken by the manufacturer to increase their products’ contributions to these rating systems.

In this course, the participant will discover how to address social equity within the project team, as it applies to the LEED Social Equity Pilot Credits. We will discuss ways to think about social equity and the specific criteria and documentation required for the credit.

In this one hour course, the design professional will review implementation strategies for an integrative design and construction process. We also evaluate the new Integrative Process credit in the LEED v4 rating system, and outline the necessary activities to achieve the credit. The design professional will explore collaboration strategies to help control project costs, and discover energy efficiency measures which are enabled through engagement with the building occupants.
